H. J. Whitley

Hobart Johnstone Whitley, the “Father of Hollywood,” was a real estate developer in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Most notably, he built the Hollywood subdivision. A seventh son, tragedy followed him his whole life — his siblings died of cholera, his parents died in a buggy accident, and his first wife and child died in a fire. (Some rumors suggest these deaths might have been deliberate sacrifices to feed his preternatural ambitions.) According to Edna Salinas and the Whitley Folio, he was a mystic who built his designs according to mystical principles. His designs likely created the grid of occult doors Kevin calls the Swiss cheese, and that this grid maintains contact with the Otherspace called Hollywoodland.

Rodney Sims and his cult seem to believe Whitley was the godwalker of The Opportunist, whatever that means.
