The Sleepers

The Sleepers are almost an urban legend, but everyone’s pretty sure they’re real. They’re the bogeymen of the occult underground, but among the disparate occultists of the underground, they’re as close to cops as anyone gets. They make sure the occult underground stays underground — if someone publicly displays magick, they get smacked down hard and fast. And visibly, so that no one will ever forget what happens when you get too loud. (Jack Ruby Slippers gave an example of some couple starting a cult in Las Vegas, and ending with one missing and the other found with his hand wired to his face as if shushing someone.)

Apparently, their manifesto these days is some book called My Name Is Dirk A., but that’s got to be a load of crap. Dirk Allen hasn’t been relevant in decades, has he? (For those of you too young to remember Dirk Allen, he was a hack occult writer, like a real-life Sidney Redlitch from Bell, Book and Candle. Except his penchant for booze made him more like an occultist Hunter S. Thompson.)
